The classic chess pieces series is classic indeed! Nicely handcrafted from boxwood for the white figures and beautiful rosewood for the black ones, this set is well weighted and the pieces are heavy enough to stand rock solid on a chess board.

The knight steals the show with its finely crafted details, especially of the mane and its mouth. The details go so far that even individual teeth are delicately modelled in the knight's mouth - a feature that is often only available in luxury chess pieces. But also the eyes haven't been neglected with pupils clearly visible.

With its tall and slightly oversized mitre, the bishop looks elegantly too and the rook is a pleasure to be moved towards enemy lines with its well-balanced weight. And speaking of a good weight, the king and the queen are no exception too. The king brings 72 g on the scale with a height of 4" and has a base diameter of 1.625 inches. A board with a square size of 2.25in would be ideal.

These chess figures are a great present for a chess lover with their rather heavy weights which make an accidentally knocking down of the pieces harder. The appearance of rosewood gives those chessmen a noble look and is without doubt superior to ebonised pieces while still having a good contrast between the two colours. All pieces are crafted and polished by hand and the fact that they are made from solid wood will ensure many years of joy with these figures will lie ahead. We also have this set in a 3.5 inch version available.
